Even with stories that have been heard before, the array really boasts of shorts that take the route less taken when it comes to the way we tell the same stories. Let’s just put it like this – I’m glad to have stumbled upon this after a watching a film that tried to pass smearing of kohl/mascara for substance abuse and alcoholism. Now, let’s get to the best part, shall we? With Rakesh Sain’s Nano So Phobia and Gautam Govind Sharma’s Chajju Ke Dahi Bhalle, Vinay Chhawal’s Thappad and Smrutika Panigrahi’s Swaaha in tow! Meanwhile, the writers who worked on the same are Charudutt Acharya ( Sleeping Partner), Yogesh Chandekar ( Nano So Phobia), Vinay Chhawal ( Thappad), Mamta Kashyap ( Pinni), Sangeetha Mohan ( Sunny Side Upar), Smrutika Panigrahi ( Swaaha), and Gautam Govind Sharma ( Chhaju Ke Dahi Bhalle). Sleeping Partner has been directed by Punarvasu Naik, and Sunny Side Upar has been directed by Vijayeta Kumar. After making her directorial debut in 2018, the author/director has presented Pinni with an effortless Neena Gupta leading the way. The shorts have been helmed by 7 directors including Tahira Kashyap Khurrana who happens to be Bollywood actor Ayushman Khurrana’s wife.

The Netflix anthology series brings together seven shorts namely – Pinni, Sleeping Partner, Sunny Side Upar, Nano So Phobia, Chajju Ke Dahi Bhalle, Thappad and Swaaha. And is the collective force or impact of those moments that makes the watch what it is – heartfelt. Yes, it’s not about one fact or facet instead, it is all about that one moment in life that changes a whole lot of things. That’s exactly how it felt while and after watching Zindagi inShorts. Like someone has taken the effort to piece together pearls of the same shell and tried to present a perspective instead of just one takeaway from one single story. It is difficult to rate anthologies because usually they don’t adhere to a theme or umbrella concept but when they do, it is quite literally the best feeling. But is it worth the watch? From the flirty young world of online dating to loneliness in older adults and from infidelity to marital rape, the homegrown bunch manages to touch upon topical subjects that are never not being discussed. Now, summing up of life is a herculean task itself but Zindagi inShort does a good job of exploring unsaid emotions and most importantly the physicality of it. This time around, it is in the form of an anthology of seven shorts that truly represent all walks of life. Zindagi inShort is a bouquet of short films produced by Academy award winner Guneet Monga and her Sikhya Entertainment that has always strived to tell important stories.
